The Rich and why America needs them.

A few weeks back I was listening to a podcast of the Dennis Prager show and he had guest on by the name of Ziad K. Abdelnour, President & CEO of Blackhawk Partners to discuss his blog posting titled “Why we need the rich: A message to Americans – and our leaders in Washington DC – on wealth creation” .
It is simultaneously one of the best defenses and explanations who the rich are and why we need them.. It is a must read and has many nuggets of truth but here is one of the most poignant in the piece:

“A great number of the richest among us never finished high school, and many who went to college never managed to graduate. That’s because the rich in this country are chosen not by blood, credentials, education, or services to the establishment. The rich are chosen for performance, and for their relentless desire to serve consumers.
The entrepreneurial knowledge that is the crux of wealth creation has little to do with glamorous work, or with the certified expertise of advanced degrees. Great wealth usually comes from doing what other people consider insufferably boring.
The treacherous intricacies of building codes or garbage routes or software languages or groceries, the mechanics of butchering sheep and pigs or frying and freezing potatoes, the murky lore of petroleum leases or housing deeds, the ways and means of pushing pizzas or insurance policies or hawking hosiery or pet supplies or scrounging for pennies in fast-food unit sales, all of those tasks are deemed tedious and trivial.
In short, our rich – America’s best entrepreneurs - perform work that most others spurn.”

I would encourage everyone to share this article with friends and family, but especially someone young because there view of the rich will help to shape both our nation’s economic future and theirs as well. The peasant has spoken, see you next week.

Jesus as the new curse word.

Jesus and Christianity are making a comeback in the USA!! Sorry I was day dreaming I was an editor of a major newspaper preparing for tomorrow’s edition. Wake up Glenn, get back to reality. Okay, well Jesus is making a comeback but not as a savoir to some but as an expletive, a figure of speech in the vernacular of pop culture. Fantastic!! I guess I will take a rain check on the hope the main conversation at the office water cooler would be a discussions on accepting Jesus as one’s personal savior. In last several years both personally and as a consumer of popular culture I have notice the increased use of the name of Jesus or Jesus Christ followed by one of George Carlin’s seven words you can’t say on television used to express frustration, anger, etc. As a Christian I find this to be very offensive but illustrative of our national culture’s secular shift.

One development responsible for this is the general breakdown of order in our culture started in the 60’s. Now continued under the political Left’s idea of Tolerance, the population at large has bought into the Left’s idea of what tolerance of others behavior should be. In theory tolerance of others behavior must equal acceptance. Therefore anyone who speaks out against the Leftist’s approved behavior like the hookup culture and its negative consequence to both men and women are labeled intolerant and anti sex, anti pleasure, the list is endless as you imagine.

Now you may ask how this relates to the increased use of the name of Jesus being uses as expletive in our popular culture. In practice Left’s idea of tolerance is not really tolerance at all, but is an anti order and anti moral judgment ethical system.

In the beginning of any (healthy) relationship there is development of order that occurs among the persons involved. At the start everything is very fluid, but relatively quickly it begins to thicken as appropriate behaviors are communicated, personal boundaries are set, and a foundation is laid. Similarly, society functions like a giant relationship, only with more actors and a longer life span. Communication of appropriate or expected behavior between its participants is essential to the foundation of both to function effectively.

The practice of Left’s idea of tolerance actually breaks down the moral communication throughout society by discouraging serious conversations because as soon as there is an idea it disagrees with it is labeled as intolerant, sexist, racist, end of discussion. Societal communication is not the only casualty here. There is also a breakdown among societies many groups into little communication bubbles as well. There is lots of small talk but serious moral topics are off limits. It is any wonder that many decent secular individuals have no idea that use of my Savior’s name as a figure of speech, let alone as an expletive is offensive because why would they know? We do not know each other very well.

In my life, my relationships with my friends are deep and meaningful and that was not accident. Serious discussions generally lead to serious relationships for people and societies.
