Jesus and Christianity are making a comeback in the
One development responsible for this is the general breakdown of order in our culture started in the 60’s. Now continued under the political Left’s idea of Tolerance, the population at large has bought into the Left’s idea of what tolerance of others behavior should be. In theory tolerance of others behavior must equal acceptance. Therefore anyone who speaks out against the Leftist’s approved behavior like the hookup culture and its negative consequence to both men and women are labeled intolerant and anti sex, anti pleasure, the list is endless as you imagine.
Now you may ask how this relates to the increased use of the name of Jesus being uses as expletive in our popular culture. In practice Left’s idea of tolerance is not really tolerance at all, but is an anti order and anti moral judgment ethical system.
In the beginning of any (healthy) relationship there is development of order that occurs among the persons involved. At the start everything is very fluid, but relatively quickly it begins to thicken as appropriate behaviors are communicated, personal boundaries are set, and a foundation is laid. Similarly, society functions like a giant relationship, only with more actors and a longer life span. Communication of appropriate or expected behavior between its participants is essential to the foundation of both to function effectively.
The practice of Left’s idea of tolerance actually breaks down the moral communication throughout society by discouraging serious conversations because as soon as there is an idea it disagrees with it is labeled as intolerant, sexist, racist, end of discussion. Societal communication is not the only casualty here. There is also a breakdown among societies many groups into little communication bubbles as well. There is lots of small talk but serious moral topics are off limits. It is any wonder that many decent secular individuals have no idea that use of my Savior’s name as a figure of speech, let alone as an expletive is offensive because why would they know? We do not know each other very well.
In my life, my relationships with my friends are deep and meaningful and that was not accident. Serious discussions generally lead to serious relationships for people and societies.
